Building Mortimer, Day 7

Day 7

I was a full week into building the next volume of Mortimer and I was so deep into building, with day 6 being a huge day, that I did not see it coming - stay tuned for the sausy details!

I had to stop the debug first thing this morning – and once I was ready to resume work, this is what greeted me!

Address already in use - bind(2) for "0.0.0.0" port 3000

somehow I cannot start dev or debug and the scary part is - I don’t know why!

I opened Activity Monitor and started sniffing around. Turns out it was this bad boy hiding in the pot-pourri

14745 ?? S 0:16.89 solid-queue-supervisor(0.9.0): supervising 14774, 14775, 14776

lingering behind the curtains not making it easy on me guessing what was really going on.
I kill -HUP 14745 and that was the end of it! Ohh - and the 14745 is the PID which most certainly will never match your case!

Landing page

Once I got in gear I spent a good half day transposing

into the landing page for Mortimer.

Stopping the blue-box volume!

How the h***! I mean, I was just about to getting some real traction here and then this final blow!

Remember back a week ago when we kind'a lost most of our expected user base? With only one potential customer left – and now they gave up on us too. So even if we did pivot it was not going to be enough!

So the story could have ended here but as I am adding this paragraph almost 7 months down the road, it did not. We pivoted some more - a lot in fact. Only time will tell if we did the right thing!

This series ends here – but I'll start compiling a new one detailing the interregnum in a short while.

Got on the train just about when the IBM PC 5150 got introduced and never really got off again - switched to macOS about 2006 though, and never looked back. It's been such a ride!
